A named scent impression used to describe how a fragrance smells.
Also known as: fragrance note, perfume note
Not to be confused with: Accord
An impression can come from a natural extract, a single aroma material or a blend. Some notes name things that cannot simply be bottled as an essential oil. Their position in a pyramid is a description of development, rather than a promise that you will identify each one.
A perfume has a pear note, although that impression may be created with several materials rather than pear extract.
“I notice a crisp pear note above the soft woods.”
A note list is not an ingredient list and cannot establish whether a perfume contains a particular substance or allergen.
