A combination of fragrance materials composed to create a recognisable scent impression.
Also known as: fragrance accord, perfume accord
Not to be confused with: Note
Perfumers balance materials so that they support a shared impression. An accord may be a small part of a larger fragrance or a central theme. Consumer descriptions also use “accord” more loosely for the overall character they recognise.
Several materials together create the impression of soft suede, without the perfume containing pieces of suede.
“The leather accord is smooth rather than smoky.”
An accord does not have a fixed number of ingredients. A note and an accord can describe the same perceived effect at different levels of explanation.
Define the craft concept here; preserve existing Accord records and their fragrance relationships.
