An extrait is often a concentrated interpretation of a fragrance. It may feel rich or close-wearing, but those qualities depend on the formula. Some houses use “parfum” for a similar format; the exact meaning needs to be read in the context of the product.
An extrait can be a distinct composition rather than a stronger copy of another version. A greater proportion of concentrate does not create a simple, predictable increase in diffusion. Test the actual product and follow its application instructions.
You compare an extrait with the EDP and find the extrait softer in the air but fuller up close.
“The extrait wears close on me, with a fuller woody character.”
Extrait does not mean pure undiluted fragrance material. It is not automatically the loudest or longest-lasting version.
